It’s wonderful to see well-known locations around Midgar lavishly redecorated for the new console, and for those who have never previously encountered the original game or the remake, my goodness, what a treat you have in store. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergradeīuilding on the acclaimed 2020 update of Square Enix’s classic steampunk adventure, Intergrade tweaks the visuals for PS5 and adds the Episode INTERmission content, which brings in a whole new quest around fan-favourite character Yuffie. Its action wears thin after a while, but nonetheless this is a game that shows off both the PlayStation 5 and developer Sucker Punch’s superabundant attention to visual detail. Just watch the cherry blossoms fall and grass blow in the wind as you ride around the island of Tsushima and slash through Mongol invaders. Set in Japan in the 1200s and hugely informed and inspired by samurai cinema, this is the most absurdly beautiful open-world game around. It’s technically astonishing, sure, but also big-hearted, lovable and very, very fun to play. Whether you are pointing cartoonish weapons at wonderfully animated alien enemies or leaping and skating around alien planets on jet-boots, it always looks absolutely sumptuous and wants you to be having a good time.
